Principe : cette bibliographie ne comprend que les séries Usagi (Spage Usagi et TMNT) et non les divers travaux de Stan Sakai (Nilson Groundthumper,Ten Little Critters, Simpson, Star Wars et travaux de lettrage sur Groo The Wanderer, The Legend of Kamui, Spider-man Sunday Strips …)
Certaines éditions historiques sont indiquées à titre informatif, l’objectif est de fournir un catalogue exhaustif de toutes les histoires. Usagi Yojimbo edition Mirage

Après sa période Fantagraphics Stan passe rapidement chez Mirage (qui lui a déjà publié Space Usagi) : Mirage Volume 2, issues 1 – 16 Mirage Press (première édition de ces histoires en couleur avec Tom Luth, encrage et ombrage redessiné par Stan Sakai lorsqu’elles ont été republiées en N&B chez Dark Horse)

Usagi Yojimbo, série régulière, vol 8 à aujourd’hui, Dark Horse

Cette édition a légèrement changé de format, en outre il y a systématiquement une galerie de covert art en N&B à la fin de chaque tome reprenant les couvertures des éditions fascicules, ainsi qu’une mini encyclopédie de Stan (Story notes à partir du vol 12 reprenant la naissance mythologique du Japon) : expliquant ses choix, ses recherches ses inspirations.
Comme vous pouvez le constater, l’édition reliée ne reprend pas forcément l’ordre chronologique des publications originales en fascicule. De même les albums ont un sous titre qui est une thématique (recueil de courtes histoires ou histoire longue)

Space Usagi

Space usagi est une série futuriste se passant dans un avenir bien lointain, avec un descendant de Yojimbo Usagi comme personnage principal. en fait tous les personnages sont identiques à Usagi Yojimbo la série traditionnelle, ce space opera baigne dans une ambiance à la Star Wars, où le sabre laser et le code d’honneur des samurai est encore présent. Cela permit à Stan Sakai de dessiner des dinosaures qu’il aime tant (et oui les tokage ou lézards qui font figures d’animaux dans Usagi sont des petits dinosaures).

The Usagi Drawing Book #5: Expressions « an 8-page mini-comic I gave out at drawing lessons at San Diego and Wizard World Chicago. There were only two Drawing Books. Number 6 dealt with Extreme Emotions. Daughter Hannah also sold them for 50 cents each at a few cons. I had intended to do a series of these minis, introducing younger artists to the basics of drawing. Number 1 was to deal with « using basic shapes ». Other volumes were to have titles like « bodies in motion », « basics of perspective », and « do your research ». (Stan Sakai)

The story, Mayumi, is the alternate ending for The Killer story arc that ran from UY 94 to 102. I shortened that 24 page story into 10 pages to fit in UY Sketchbook #4. The art is in that sketchy style that I usually reserve for my autobiographical stories, and that I used for Sukanku in the UY SBk #3.

La cover couleur est celle du sketchbook espagnol 2004 (libro de bocetos) réalisé spécialement pour une convention à Madrid où Stan était à l’honneur. Vivement un sketchbook français ! Jeux de rôle Usagi Yojimbo

Le jeux de rôle Usagi Yojimbo est composé de deux livres, le premier en plus des règles est intéressant pour de multiples raisons : il y a une introduction reprécisant bien le contexte historique de Usagi, de nombreuses citations de Stan Sakai expliquant l’origine des protagonistes, ainsi que la seule chronologie du monde de Usagi. Le second « Monsters » ajoute des monstres au RPG.
